This is what our fellow colleague Rev. Charles Cox had to share with all of us before the New Year takes off.
| There is an old Chinese saying, "May you live in interesting times." I've always understood the phrase to mean that it is far better to live in a world filled with diversity and constant change than one of tranquil dullness. For me the past year has certainly been "interesting". I am certain that most anyone reading this can say the same about their lives over the past year as well.
As a church, we have bid farewell to long time friends who have crossed over to the next phase in their lives, as well as welcomed new friends into our midst. Certainly in the 17 years of service as a minister to Sunset Spiritualist Church, I cannot recall more exciting (and interesting) times for the Church. This summer, we had a very successful Camp even though gas prices had skyrocketed.
During the summer and fall we had very well-attended seminars given by my colleagues Kevin Phillips, Cynthia Killion and Reverend Evadne Tuxhorn. I also want to thank everyone who attended my seminar in October. My thanks to my fellow presenters and to everyone who helped make all these fundraising events so successful. As a side note, the last time we raised money, it took over 2 years to raise $5000. This year alone we have raised over $12,000 for the new bathhouse and $1500 for the chair lift into the church basement over just 4 weekend events. All of this took place while there was turmoil in our financial markets.
We gave from our hearts when the logical mind might have guided us to hold back. We truly are acting on our beliefs; giving in the face of adversity because we believe in infinite supply and prosperity.
These are exciting times for Sunset Spiritualist Church. Our membership is growing as well as attendance at our special events. It's important for you to know that none of these things happen without your support.
Even in the midst of economic uncertainty, we have found a way to flourish this year... and that is a reflection of the generous nature of our entire community. My hope is that you not only are a member of our Church but that you become a part of it. I invite you to continue down your own spiritual path with us in 2009. I look forward to seeing you in Wells on your next visit. In the mean time, know that each one of you is in my prayers. My life has been forever changed by the good people there who have touched my heart and soul. As the year draws to a close, I would ask that you remember Sunset Spiritualist Church with any last minute donations that you can offer. Every dollar donated to the Church goes to maintain and improve our buildings and grounds. And, of course, all donations are tax deductible. Don't "not" give because you think your donation is too small. Every little bit helps us build the spiritual community we all want, both today and for the future. With your generous contribution, we can finish off 2008 with a bang! Thank you for the opportunity to be of service to you as well as our growing spiritual community. Rev Charles Cox |
